Mr. G's Counselor Connection

Hello, my name is Alex Goins, students and staff might refer to me at Mr. G! I am one of the school Counselors at Mosheim Elementary and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve and help meet the needs of students, parents, and the community at Mosheim and in Greene County.

Just a little bit about myself. I am a transplant from the state of Indiana, where I attended school at Ball State University (2015) and at Indiana Wesleyan University (2024). My wife and I have lived in Tennessee since the summer of 2023. We have beautiful twins, a boy and a girl, that were born shortly after moving to Tennessee, as well as two dogs. Outside of school, I referee soccer at the collegiate, high school, middle school, and club level with TSSAA and USSF respectively. I also referee middle school and high school basketball with TSSAA. In my free time I enjoy board games, going on runs, doing yard work and construction projections around the house, and spending time with friends and family. I enjoy challenging others to a game of chess, in the past I have sponsored chess clubs, and love learning and teaching chess.

My values can be summed up in the 4 F's: Faith, Family, Friends, and Freedom. I believe if you have all four, this likely leads to the 5th F: Fulfillment. This is what I hope for everyone! What drives me as a counselor is to see everyone have success and thrive in their life. If I have learned anything in life it is that you can't do life on your own. Working with students to help them become resilient, to overcome obstacles, to be the best versions of themselves no matter the circumstances, that is what I am passionate about. No matter what the issue may be, no matter how bad the mistake, no matter how many "chances" are given, it is my hope that I as a school counselor can be a safe place and a role model for students. I strive to work alongside parents/guardians to provide resources, to provide insight, to encourage and build up families to be strong. Pope John XXIII said, "The family is the first essential cell of human society." If there is anything that I am able to do to help support your student and your family, within my ability and capability, I want people to know that I am here to serve. You can find some links to various websites that offer resources and information related to mental health and social services. Feel free to contact me if you have a need and not sure where to go, I will be sure to help you in any way possible. Thank you all, and I look forward to a great school year!
